Using Text Prompts

When creating your own AI background, you have two options for text prompts:

Assisted Prompt

If you need some help getting started, you can use an assisted prompt. Photocut will provide a structure for you to follow, with suggestions to guide you.

Manual Prompt

If you prefer to let your imagination run wild, you can use a manual prompt. You are free to describe the scene you want, and the AI will bring it to life!

Using Image Prompts

If you're more of a visual person, you can also use an image prompt. Simply upload a reference image or choose one from Unsplash, and the AI will use it as inspiration to create your background.

Assisted Prompt on iPhone or iPad

Ready to try an assisted prompt on your iPhone or iPad? Here's how:

1. Select Start from Photo and choose an image to upload.

2. Select Backgrounds and then AI Backgrounds.

3. Choose Create a background and make sure the Assisted tab is selected.

4. Enter a short description of the surface for your subject and the background you want.

5. Select Generate Images to see 4 suggested options.

6. Choose your favorite image and make any additional edits.

7. Export and share your creation!

Manual Prompt on iPhone or iPad

Feeling adventurous and want to try a manual prompt? Here's how:

1. Select Start from Photo and choose an image to upload.

2. Select Backgrounds and then AI Backgrounds.

3. Choose Create a background and select the Manual tab.

4. Enter a description of the scene you want to create.

5. Optionally, add preferences or negative prompts.

6. Generate Images and choose your favorite option.

Image Prompt

Hey there! If you want to create some cool AI-generated backgrounds, you can use an image prompt to get started. Here's how:

On iPhone or iPad

1. Go to the Create page and select Start from Photo.

2. Choose an image to upload or edit one of your existing designs.

3. Select Backgrounds and then AI Backgrounds.

4. Choose Create a background and then the Image tab.

5. Select an image to upload, take a new photo, generate an AI image, or choose from the provided images.

6. Pick one of the AI-generated backgrounds or generate more.

7. Make any further edits and then export your image.

8. Done! Just remember that AI-generated images may not be exactly the same for each image in a batch.

On Android

1. You can use a text prompt or an image prompt to create your AI-generated background.

2. For an assisted prompt, follow the suggestions provided by Photocut.

3. For a manual prompt, describe the scene you want to create.

4. Upload an image or use one from Unsplash as an image prompt.

5. Make any necessary adjustments and export your image.

2. Choose an image to upload or edit an existing design.

3. Select Backgrounds and then AI Backgrounds.

4. Choose Create a background and select the Image tab.

5. Upload an image or choose from the provided options.

6. Make any necessary changes and export your image.

7. Done! Your new background is ready to use.

On Web App

If you prefer using a web app, you can create AI-generated backgrounds using text or image prompts. Here's how:

Assisted Prompt

1. Log in to the Photocut Web App at app.Photocut.com.

2. Select a photo to upload or edit an existing design.

3. Choose AI Backgrounds and then the Assisted tab.

4. Enter descriptions for your subject and background.

5. Generate images, make any edits, and download your final design.

6. Done! Your AI-generated background is now saved in your designs.

​The AI creates 4 suggested images. You can choose one of those or select Generate 4 more to create some more.

​Select the image you want to use.

Use the editing settings to make further changes to the design.

Select Download to download a copy of the image. Photocut saves the image in your Designs too.

​Image prompt

Use an image prompt to choose an image to use as inspiration for your new AI-generated background. You can upload your own image or use an image from Unsplash.

Log in to the Photocut Web App at app.Photocut.com.

In the Create section, select Select a Photo and then choose an image to upload.

Alternatively, select Designs and choose an existing design to edit.

Select AI Backgrounds.

Select Create a background.​

Select the Image tab.

Either:

Drop an image file into the box or select the link to upload an image

Use the search box to find a suitable inspiration image in Unsplash.

​Choose one of the AI-generated backgrounds or select Generate 4 more to get more AI-generated images.

[Optional] Use the editing settings to make further changes to the design.

Select Download to download a copy of the image. Photocut saves the image in your Designs too.

Note: When you use a reference image to generate a new background in batch mode, it’s not possible to create the exact same background for each image. This is a universal issue with AI-generated images. If you're working on a batch of images, we recommend using AI Backgrounds on the web. Toggle on “high consistency” to generate more similar backgrounds. 

Creating AI-Generated Backgrounds on Your Phone

Manual prompt

To make your own AI-generated background on your iPhone or iPad, follow these steps:

Step 1: Select an Image

Go to the Create page and choose Start from Photo. Pick an image to upload or edit one of your existing designs.

Step 2: Choose Background

If you're editing an existing design, select Backgrounds, then AI Backgrounds, and Create a background.

Step 3: Use Manual Prompt

Select the Manual tab and describe the scene you want the AI to create. You can also specify your image preferences.

Step 4: Generate Images

Turn on Add negative prompt if needed. The AI will suggest 4 images for you to choose from. You can also generate more or edit the prompt.

Step 5: Finalize and Export

Select the image you like, make any final edits, and then export your creation to save and share.

Make any final edits, export your creation, and share it with others.

On Android

To create AI-generated backgrounds on an Android device, you can use a text prompt or an image prompt.

Assisted prompt

If you want some guidance, follow these steps:

Step 1: Select an Image

Step 2: Choose Background

If you're editing an existing design, select Backgrounds, then AI Backgrounds, and Create a background.

Step 3: Use Assisted Prompt

Make sure the Assisted tab is selected and enter descriptions for the subject and background. You can also choose from suggestions.

Step 4: Generate Images

The AI will suggest 4 images for you to choose from. Make any final edits and export your creation. Now you can easily create your own AI-generated backgrounds on your phone!

Creating AI-Generated Backgrounds with Photocut

Manual prompt

To use a manual prompt on an Android device:

If you want to tell the AI exactly what you want in your background, you can use a manual prompt. Here's how:

1. Go to the Create page and select Start from Photo.

2. Choose an image to upload or edit one of your existing designs.

3. Select Backgrounds and then AI Backgrounds.

4. Choose Create a background and then select the Manual tab.

5. In the Prompt field, describe the scene you want the AI to create.

6. You can also give the AI some preferences, like if the object in your image is small or large.

7. If there are things you don't want in the image, turn on Add negative prompt and describe them.

8. Select Generate Images to see 4 suggested images. You can choose one or generate more.

9. Use Resize to change the image dimensions if needed.

10. Select the image you want to use and make any further edits.

11. Finally, export and save your image.

Image prompt

If you want to use an existing image as inspiration for your background, you can use an image prompt. Here's how:

1. Go to the Create page and select Start from Photo.

2. Choose an image to upload or edit one of your existing designs.

3. Select Backgrounds and then AI Backgrounds.

4. Choose Create a background and then select the Image tab.

If you want full control over your background, you can use a manual prompt on the Web App. Here's how:

1. Log in to the Photocut Web App.

3. Select AI Backgrounds and then Create a background.

4. Choose the Manual tab and describe the scene you want.

5. Turn on Add negative prompt if needed and describe what you don't want in the image.

6. Select Generate Images to see the AI's suggestions.

Creating AI-Generated Backgrounds with Photocut

Getting Started

Photocut allows you to create AI-generated backgrounds for your designs. Here's how you can get started:

Choose an Image

The AI will suggest 4 images for you to choose from. You can either select one of those or generate 4 more options.

Editing Settings

If you want to make further changes to the design, you can use the editing settings before downloading the image.

Download Your Image

Once you're happy with the design, you can select Download to save a copy of the image. Photocut will also save the image in your Designs section.

Using an Image Prompt

If you want to use a specific image as inspiration for your AI-generated background, you can follow these steps:

1. Log in to the Photocut Web App at app.Photocut.com.

2. In the Create section, select Select a Photo and choose an image to upload.

3. Alternatively, you can select Designs and choose an existing design to edit.

4. Select AI Backgrounds and then Create a background.

5. Choose the Image tab.

6. You can either drop an image file into the box or upload an image link. You can also search for an inspiration image on Unsplash.

7. Choose one of the AI-generated backgrounds or generate 4 more options.

8. Use the editing settings if needed before downloading the image.

9. Remember that when using a reference image to generate a new background in batch mode, each image may not be exactly the same due to the nature of AI-generated images. If you want more consistency, toggle on "high consistency" when using AI Backgrounds on the web.
