Creating Images with Transparent Backgrounds

On iPhone and iPad

To export a design with a transparent background on iPhone or iPad:

First, you need to make sure that PhotoCut is set to export in the .png format.

1. Select Your Content.
2. Select Preferences.
3. Select Always export in .png.
4. Select Back.

Step 1 - On the Create page, select Start from Photo. Choose a photo to import and then select the Transparent template.

Alternatively, you could select Your Content and choose an existing design. Edit the existing design so that it has a transparent background.

Step 2 - You should see that the background of the design is checkered (white and gray). This represents transparency.

Step 3 - Edit your design to meet your requirements.

Step 4 - Select Export. Use the export settings to save and share your image. When you save or share the design as image files, you will get .png files with a transparent background.

Note: If you are on the Pro plan, you can also bulk export designs and set them to have transparent backgrounds. Make sure you set PhotoCut to export in .png format (see step 1 above) and then choose the transparent template (see Edit multiple photos at once with Batch Mode).

On Android

To export a design with a transparent background on an Android device:

First, you need to make sure that PhotoCut is set to export in the .png format.

On Web App

To export a design with a transparent background on the Web App (desktop):

First, you need to make sure that PhotoCut is set to export in the .png format or .webp format.

1. Select Preferences.
2. Select .png or .webp. 
3. If you choose auto, PhotoCut will export as .png when it detects there is transparency in your design.
4. Close the Preferences dialog.

Step 1 - On the Create page, select Select a Photo. Choose a photo to import and then select the Transparent template.

Alternatively, you could select Designs and choose an existing design. Edit the existing design so that it has a transparent background.

Step 2 - You should see that the background of the design is checkered (white and gray). This represents transparency.

Step 3 - Edit your design to meet your requirements.

Step 4 - Select Download. photocut saves your design and a local copy downloads in your browser. It downloads as a .png file or a .webp file, depending on your choice in step 1.
